Mandarin garnet
The shiny orange variety of Spessartite is called Mandarin garnet or Kunene-Spessartite.
The Spessartite was named 1832 by Francois Sulpice Beudant after the Spessart, one of the main historic discovery sites.
The colour of Spessartite varies mainly between orange and yellow, it can also be brown-red to dark-red or black.
There are more than 1000 discovery sites known for Spessartite.
